Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
I love this book so much! The book is relatable to teenage-hood in so many ways and the issues Simon deals with are different than other contemporary YA books. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is about Simon who is a not open gay who sends email to a stranger at his school. However, a classmates of Simon’s finds the email and attempt to blackmail him with the picture of the emails. The book is laugh out loud funny, relatable, and awesome.
Things I liked about the book:
Typically, parents in YA books are distant and are part of the problem and just not involved in their child’s life. Simon’s family is totally different and relatable for a lot of people who do not have family issues. I love how his family is accepting and doesn’t treat Simon differently.
The emails between Simon and Blue are my favorite part because I love the suspense of not knowing who it is and trying to figure it out. I was really upset when they stopped because Simon figured out who Blue was. I just wanted them to meet because I ship Blue and Simon hard.
I have a love hate relationship with his friends. There always seemed to be a problem of feeling left out while at the same time they would exclude each other. I just wanted to tell them to all get along and hang out. I love how Albertalli included the struggles of having a relationship within a friend group because it is very common.
Things I didn’t like:
The book is unrealistic, but what work of fiction isn’t? There is not much that I dislike about the book.
I give Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda five stars because it is very funny and probably in the top five of best YA books of 2015.

YAYYY I loved this book too!! I read it so fast, I can see what you mean about it being a little unrealistic though. I wonder how the movie will be...!
